A 2,500 km journey at mule’s pace through the rural soul of our country among labourers and old craftsmen.

A documentation of simple techniques perfected over centuries of practice, of ancient crafts and living conditions.

A testimony of the unwritten culture expressed in recipes, melodic heritage, dances, customs and superstitions.

Woodvivors is a project born in 2016 from an idea of Francesco Paolo Lanzino. Our aim is to give prominence to a forgotten reality, rural Italy, by collecting the testimonies of the protagonists of that world. The team is made up of a group of people eager to rediscover and make known the traditions, values and lifestyles of the past.
With our journey we want to show how anyone armed with curiosity can bring back to light the rural roots of their territory, seemingly very distant, to create a sustainable future that does not deny our past.

The itinerary winds its way through Italy, from Pantelleria to Turin. The route runs mainly along Apennine ridges, away from large urban centres, following the traces of old paths and sheep tracks where possible. The expected duration of the journey is about 6 months, taking into account the time needed for the audiovisual production;

The route crosses some of the most interesting natural and historical sites in our country: Pollino National Park, Cinque Terre, the Apennines, Peloritani. These are just some of the wonderful places the project will touch. It is necessary to travel taking advantage of the warmer months, with more hours of light and in which it is possible to find fresh pastures to sustain our animals.
